Happy New Year! I can't believe I've had this website for two years now. There have been changes to my art along the way, but it's all part of the images evolving just as we all keep changing, too. I'd like to tell you about the newest series.
Many years ago, I was an art student experimenting in a time of turmoil. I was drawn to Helen Frankenthaler’s floating colours and tried my own poured canvases. Back then, I used turpentine and oil paint on canvases several feet long. (It was a much less conscious of toxic substances time and I try not to think about the art supplies I used and breathed.) Fast forward to 2017, and I still love pouring paint. I’ve moved to acrylic paints and mediums and experimented with skins and pours and the various ways you can manipulate acrylic paint. Then there was the Ah-ha moment when I found a way to combine pouring paint with my love of experimentation and also add areas of quiet to the canvas.
My recent series, On White, which you see on the main page, uses the viscosity levels of different types of paint along with silicone added for the cell structures within. They remind me of minerals, of continents forming, and close-ups of cell structures as they grow and reproduce. Toss in a little bow to Chinese brush strokes, and watch as forms appear. The large areas of white paint are maintained to add structure and areas of quiet to the paintings. If there's a specific size or colour combination you would like to see for your life and your house, just send me an email.
